Male Weavers
Male weavers are rarely found in Saudi Arabia. There are some in Oman and Yemen and in southwestern Saudi Arabia, near the Yemeni border. Their weavings are generally wider than women's, and therefore their loom parts are longer. The technique is essentially the same, with minor variations. Two men work together, one on each side of the warp, which is a few inches off the ground. The heddle rod is lashed onto movable wooden stands. The warp beam may be tensioned to a single vertical rod rather than two tent stakes. The men use sword beaters and a small, simple wooden stick rather than a hook beater.
Because of their wider looms and faster weaving methods, men generally make wider pieces such as rugs and tent pieces.
