Small Looms

Small looms are used to make small pieces of weaving, such as decorative sashes for bags or riding litters. The loom may be four or six inches wide and ten feet long if a camel ornament is being made on it.
The weaver may not need a heddle rod if she is twining the piece. Twining is a technique in which the crosswise, or weft, yarn is twisted over and under the warps simultaneously with two weft ends. Thus there is no need for changing sheds. One twining technique is done in one's lap without a loom. (More at a later time on weft twining and other weaving techniques.)
