Contemporary Weavers
Contemporary weavers in towns and cities have adapted the basic ground loom to indoor living. Instead of tensioning the beams against tent stakes, they may rest them against door jambs, stairs or pieces of furniture. Instead of resting the heddle rods on oil cans or rocks, the weaver may use elbow cushions. Some weavers create metal frame looms with metal stands for the heddle rod. The loom at the left is a simple frame of reinforcing rods, bent at the ends to hold the beams. Others tension beams with stacks of concrete blocks, held in place by metal stands. While these substitutes work admirably, they cannot replace the simplicity and directness of the simple ground loom.
