Lectures & Workshops

Joy May Hilden uses her research, large collection of slides and photographs, and extensive inventory of Beduin weavings to create exciting speaking programs and hands-on workshops. They are appropriate for people of any age or level of experience.

Slide-lecture programs include:

  • Her travels to visit nomads in Saudi Arabia and neighboring countries.

  • Beduin weaving - what it is and how it is made.

  • Complete information about spinning, dyeing, and weaving techniques and tools.

  • The weavers' evolving lifestyles in a rapidly changing world.

  • The diversity of peoples encountered in the region.

Programs are accompanied by examples of weavings from her collection and demonstrations of spinning and weaving.

Workshops and classes in weaving techniques:

  • Two-day or one-week courses.

  • No experience necessary.

  • The warp-faced weaving is made on simple frames for teaching purposes.

  • A ground loom is available for the group's use.
